Coastal farmers to benefit from EU grant to revive cashew nut farming
More than 15,000 cashew nut farmers from the coastal counties of Lamu, Kilifi and Kwale will benefit from a grant from the European Union
This is part of a plan to promote the revival of the crop, where more than Sh 50 million will be used in purchasing and distribution of cashew nut seedlings, as well as training farmers on matters agri-business. The union and the kilifi county government today launched the cashew nut seedling distribution project at Kakanjuni area. Governor Amason Kingi urged the national government to recognize and categorize crops grown at the coast as cash crops so that they can be protected and financed by the exchequer.
