Seized contraband sugar contains mercury, copper
A total of 1365 bags of contraband sugar worth close to 14 million shillings has been nabbed and it emerges that some of this sugar contains mercury and copper components. A government chemist report reveals that the contamination was in sizable percentages causing a major health hazard to consumers. The sugar seized in Eastleigh, Ruiru and Nairobi's Industrial Area was packaged in fake miller brands with the machines used also impounded in the raid. And as NTV's Mel Myendo reports the illegal trade could possibly be traced all the way to powerful politicians.
