Rape, defilement cases settled traditionally due to lack of courts
In Wajir county, cases of Defilement and Rape are settled traditionally, due to lack of courts and judicial officers. The traditional Maslah system, doesn't involve police, witness testimonies, court arguments, or medical reports. Disputes are settled through the Islamic Religion, and cultural practices. Wajir, which has an estimated population of about 661,941 according to the 2009 census , and covering about 55,841 square kilometres, is served by only one court.
