Mandera governor, Ali Roba, orders activities at quarries to resume
Mandera Governor, Ali Roba, has directed all quarry fields in Mandera County to be reopened despite a national government ban on the activity, due to insecurity. The Governor says the closure of quarry activities is derailing the County’s economy, and is having an adverse impact on the livelihood of residents. The national government announced the closure of the quarries on the 4th of May, a week after four miners were killed by suspected Al-Shaabab militants at Shimbir Fatuma quarry in Mandera South.
