Two more people succumb to hunger related issues in Baringo County
More than 17 people have reportedly succumbed to hunger-related illnesses in Tiaty and Baringo North Sub-Counties as more than 106, 806 others are staring at starvation on the face.
During a food distribution in Nginyang' in Tiaty Sub-County led by Devolution Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa, Silale ward representative Nelson Lotela said he has the names of more than 17 people who have died of hunger in the area. He said the latest victim, a 60-year-old man, died on Monday evening at Loruk at the border of Tiaty and Baringo North Sub-County.
"We wonder why the government is disputing that people have died due to hunger in Baringo. In fact, there is an old man who died on Monday evening and we have all the records," said Mr Lotela. He said the deceased, Kisera Apewot, died on Monday evening in his house after going for several days without food. The victim was buried on Tuesday morning.
‘I can take the provincial administration to the homesteads of all the deceased persons who have succumbed to hunger. Why are they disputing our reports yet it is true. They have even gone to an extent of intimidating us and the local chiefs for giving out the reports to the media,” said Mr Lotela.
