Untold misery for Migori residents after shutdown of tobacco factory
It is now five years since Alliance One Tobacco closed shop in Migori County, locals say since then, it has been a long period of untold misery.
Locals here planted the tobacco crop that is used to make cigarettes and for decades relied on it for a livelihood. It was the main economic activity and its exit has not found a replacement.
What is now left to show off the giant industry is abandoned tobacco sheds and bans which were used in curing.
