Residents of Watamu decry dispute involving hotel management saying it has led to job losses
Hundreds of residents in Watamu, Kilifi County yesterday demonstrated to condemn the dispute between hotel investors and a company hired to manage the hotel which has led to the loss of jobs.
The residents who are curio sellers, beach operators, tour guides and former employees at Sun Palm Resort, which is the hotel under dispute carried twigs and placards accusing the resort owner-Ms Eleonora Cozzi of spoiling the economy of Watamu.
Kilifi North MP Owen Baya later joined the protesting residents and addressed before meeting the directors of the management company- VR Club’s and it's subsidiary company Africa Kivulini Management Ltd, whom Ms. Cozzi has evicted at the resort.
Mr. Baya told residents that his intention is to find the solution to the problem which is affecting tourism in the region at a time when tourists are still winding up their Christmas and New Year holiday.
