Bourse to scout for eligible SMEs ahead of listing

The Nairobi bourse will start scouting for eligible small and medium enterprises (SMEs) ahead of their expected listing on the bourse by early next year.

Speaking while signing a Sh1.7 million sponsorship deal with the Top 100 Mid-Size Companies Survey, Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) chief executive officer Peter Mwangi said the move would make the exchange relevant to the needs of SMEs in the country’s economy.

This is the third year the NSE is supporting the Top 100 Mid-Size Companies Survey as part of its commitment to help grow the SME segment of the country.

Registering Nomads

“In the next one or two months, we will start registering Nominated Advisors (Nomads) to begin scouting for these companies to list on the NSE,” Mr Mwangi said, adding: “We look forward to listings later this year or early next year”.

The Top 100 Mid-Size Companies Survey, launched in 2008 in Kenya, is sponsored by the Nation Media Group and audit firm KPMG East Africa.

The survey was later rolled out in Uganda, Tanzania and Rwanda and would soon be rolled out in Burundi.
