Four people died on Friday morning after the trucks they were travelling in were involved in a road crash at Kalimbini near Salama, Makueni County.

Witnesses told Nation.co.ke that one truck rammed into the other, sparking a fierce fire that consumed both vehicles.

The victims were trapped in their respective driver's cabins and burnt to death following the impact and ensuing fire.

The trucks, one a petrol tanker and the other ferrying a container, were both travelling from Mombasa.

Area police boss Andrew Mbogo said: "The container truck rammed into the petrol tanker, sending the tanker into flames."

He said police recovered four charred bodies from the shells of both trucks, two from each.

The cause of the accident had not been determined.
