Kilifi nurses end strike

Nurses at the Kilifi County Hospital called off their strike Wednesday evening.

The Kenya National Union of Nurses Kilifi County Secretary Evans Ogato said they met county government and agreed on a return to work formula.

Kilifi County Secretary Owen Baya said the nurses' demands, which included increment of house allowances and promotions, have been addressed in the agreement.

Mr Ogato said they were satisfied with the agreement and called off the strike.

On Wednesday morning, an 11-year old boy died at the hospital after the nurses went on strike demanding salary increment and better working conditions.

The boy was taken to the hospital by his mother who said the nurses refused to attend to him.

Ms Betty Tavurathe said she tried to seek assistance from the nurses but they told her that they are not working as they started the strike at midnight.
