Confusion at EACC as CEO Halakhe Waqo revokes Michael Mubea suspension

Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission CEO Halakhe Waqo has revoked the suspension of his deputy, Michael Mubea, hours after chairman Mumo Matemu sent him on forced leave.

In a letter to Mr Matemu seen by Nation.co.ke, Mr Waqo said the 30-day suspension on allegations of “integrity issues is already adverse and damaging to his reputation”.

The CEO said the chairman did not consult him or the human resource management office before taking action against Mr Mubea.

“By a copy of this letter, I am directing the officer to report on duty and continue with his work,” stated Mr Waqo.

Mr Matemu had on Monday evening suspended Mr Mubea for 30 days pending investigations into allegations of office malpractice.

Mr Mubea was in charge of the entire EACC operations, including directorates of investigations, prevention and legal services.
