What you need to know:

  • The directive was issued Tuesday with Mr Kimaiyo saying vehicles that fail to comply will be impounded
  • The ban was issued amid rising terrorism threat in the country

The move by Inspector General of Police David Kimaiyo to ban tint on vehicle windows has angered Kenyans.

Kenyans on social media expressed their anger as the directive appeared to affect personal and public service vehicles.

But Mr Kimaiyo's office later clarified that only PSVs will be affected.

Mr Kimaiyo warned that vehicles that fail to comply will be impounded.

The directive was made Tuesday amid rising terrorism threat in the country.

Kenyans felt the move will not solve insecurity and accused Mr Kimaiyo of ‘experimenting’ ideas to see which one will work in fighting terrorism.

Here are some of the reactions:

@MacOtani When will our abled IG stop experimenting with security measures in the hope that something will work out eventually?”

@OneFMKe Kenyan security agents are dealing with insecurity and terrorism upside down tint has nothing to do with it

@dngKenya banning tint is like giving a cancer patient a pain killer tablet instead of chemotherapy as you deal with the cause of the cancer

@DennisOkari Dear Kimaiyo, Give each of us chase cars and armed bodyguards then we would not just remove tint but remove the windows

Some Kenyans also shared information on how to remove tint at home, posting links to websites with such information.

Also trending in the social media Wednesday was the news of Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero losing his seat following a Court of Appeal ruling.

Kenyans wondered who will vie against Dr Kidero since former Embakasi MP Ferdinand Waititu was found unfit to hold public office by a court in February this year.

@CorrieMwende said: “We at least know Waititu cannot hold office for ten years.

@SokoAnalyst Kidero is out. Waititu cannot hold public office for another 10 years. So it’s either Jimnah Mbaru or Peter Kenneth

Impeachment of Embu Governor Martin Wambora was also trending with Kenyans airing their views on Senate’s decision.

Kenyans congratulated Embu Deputy Governor Dorothy Nditi who takes over Mr Wambora’s post to become the first female Governor in Kenya

Donald Kipkorir tweeting as @DBK017 said: "In life, you fight one enemy at a time. Gov. Martin Nyaga Wambora fought Senate and Embu MCA same time."

@Makondingo tweeted: "History is made as Dorothy Nditi poised to become the first female Governor in Kenya."
