Public Service Trade Unions of Kenya leaders are seeking to get the court order which barred them from interfering with Labour Day celebrations lifted.

Secretary Charles Mukhwaya General said:

“We are hoping to have the injunction lifted. Then, we will talk of a programme for the day.”

On Tuesday, the Industrial Court ordered Pusetu to refrain from interfering or causing any breach of peace during the celebrations on Thursday.

THREATEN TO INTERFERE

Judge Monica Mbaru issued the order after the Central Organisation of Trade Unions (Cotu) complained that Pusetu had threatened to interfere with the celebrations.

However, Pusetu has insisted on having a participatory role in the celebrations scheduled to take place at Uhuru Park in Nairobi.

On Wednesday, Dr Mukhwaya said the union plans to mark their festivities at the same venue.

“Labour Day is a day a worker is entitled to celebrate peacefully, to reminisce, reflect and focus on their working conditions.

“As leaders both in Cotu and Pusetu we strongly believe ours is to facilitate that environment for the worker,” he said during a press briefing in Nairobi.
