Former Nairobi mayor George Aladwa has been summoned to appear in court Friday to face charges of incitement to violence.

He was summoned by Nairobi Chief Magistrate Daniel Ogembo on Tuesday after an application by the prosecution.

The Nairobi ODM chairman is expected to answer charges of incitement to violence over utterances he made at a public rally in Kibera.

Mr Aladwa was arrested but freed on bail after his lawyer petitioned the High Court for his release.

Mr Aladwa was granted a cash bail of Sh20,000 pending the conclusion of investigations and formal charging in court.
