Injured Sikuta joins Amonde on the sidelines ahead of Glasgow Sevens

Kenya Sevens forward Dan Sikuta will miss the last two legs of the 2013/2014 IRB World Sevens Series in Glasgow and London next month.

Team manager, Steve Sewe, disclosed that Sikuta, who has suffered a hamstring injury, now joins team skipper Andrew Amonde on the injury list.

Amonde, who had just returned from another shoulder injury after missing the Las Vegas and Wellington Sevens, injured his right arm at the Hong Kong Sevens and will be out for another two months.

Sewe said the 22-year-old  Sikuta will also be out for two months hence should be back in training ready for a possible return for the Commonwealth games due July 23 to August 3 in Glasgow.

KENYANS EYE REVENGE

Kenya Sevens are eying revenge against Fiji and Wales besides dominance Argentina in Pool C at the Glasgow Sevens due May 3 to 4 in Scotland.

Kenya will open their campaign in Pool C against Wales on May 3 before taking on Argentina and Fiji.

Sewe said coach Paul Treu’s charges, who are currently placed ninth with 60 points in the series, are seeking to finish on a high by reaching their fifth Cup quarterfinal this season.

Treu is due to name his final squad for the two legs tomorrow. “We are trying to rectify areas where we went wrong in Tokyo and Hong Kong,” Sewe said.

“We want to play around with the positions and for instance bring back Collins Injera to his position as a winger.”

Injera played in several position in Hong Kong as scrum half and kicker, with Biko Adema being relegated to sweeping position. “We shall know the full changes when the team is named,” said Sewe. “We want to top the pool and finish second at worst.”

WON SHIELD IN HONG KONG

Kenya Sevens settled for Shield after beating Portugal 17-10 in the final at Hong Kong Sevens. They had picked 10 points from Tokyo Sevens where they reached the main Cup Plate semi-finals, losing to Australia 0-36.

Kenya lost to Fiji and Wales 3-45 and 7-10 respectively in the Pool stages in Hong Kong. It was their fifth consecutive loss to Fiji this season while their second to Wales after losing to the former champions in Plate semis in Dubai. The Kenyans had beaten Wales 12-7 in Plate semis at Gold Coast.

Meanwhile, Fiji coach Ben Ryan has named his 12-man squad as he prepares for the Glasgow and London Sevens, rounds eight and nine of the HSBC Sevens World Series.

Currently sitting in third place Ryan has made two changes from the side that played in Hong Kong with Viliame Mata, Leo Naikasau and Semi Kunitani replacing Setefano Cakau, Joeli Lutumailagi and Samu Saqiqa.

Osea Kolinisau will captain Fiji, while Pio Tuwai and the season’s leading try scorer with 40, Samisoni Viriviri, are all included.

Fiji have won two Cups this season, in Dubai and Tokyo, but have not won a tournament in Scotland since 2009. They face pool matches with Argentina in the first match of the tournament at 10:30 on May 3.

Pool A: New Zealand, South Africa, Samoa, Portugal.

Pool B: England, Canada, France, Japan.

Pool C: Fiji, Argentina, Kenya, Wales.

Pool D: USA, Australia, Canada, Scotland, Spain.
